The Ambulatorium by Zak Mucha

Meet The Author

"Bullies are enabled by silence and silenced by spoken truth."

Description

Collected poems of Zak Mucha

From a Hotel Lobby Picture Book

The walled city of Kowloon
seen from the sky as
a tumor of concrete and rebar
corrugated tin and laundry lines
facing the sea with its spine to
the mountains balanced between
colonized land and criminalized lives.

A moth gets pinned down to a watercolor shore
and a mummified human is discovered in a drum
as another American lake goes dry.

Reviews

I like the meat of these poems, the tear and slap of them. I still feel them between my teeth long after reading them. Zak Mucha has a toughness and a way of bringing blood to the page that I admire. But I wouldn't get confused about what you are eating when you are reading these words: he is serving you his own heart.

— Jessa Crispin, founder of Bookslut, author of My Three Dads

Unlike most human beings, Zak Mucha is able to look clearly at the natural state of man and not burst into flames... anyone who finds Mucha's paintbrush too coarsely bristled is a coward and a liar.

— Rennie Sparks, The Handsome Family
